MAKE IT LAST

When you invest in timeless quality clothing, that being the smartest choice, the most important thing is to know how to make your loved garments last forever.

Every material has different properties and should be taken care of and worn differently to make them last. We know you want to wear your Nancaua pieces at work, on weekends, at dinners and lunches, on special occasions, with heels, with sneakers, and in endless other situations. Therefore, they need maintenance if you want them to look brand new every time you use them. Each specific garment has care instructions on its product page and care labels, so please follow them accurately.

  • A wool suit should only be dry-cleaned and never be washed in your washing machine or by hand. Before dry cleaning, try airing off your suit for 1-2 days out of direct sunlight to allow any odors to escape. Avoid dry cleaning too often, as chemicals can wreak havoc on delicate fibers over time, so only take your suit to dry clean when it’s absolutely necessary, ideally not more than twice a year.

  • If you get a little stain on your suit and it does not need a dry clean, try dabbing it out with some warm water on a soft cloth with no detergent or chemicals. Avoid rubbing it, just dab it, and if it doesn’t come out then speak to the dry cleaners.

  • You don’t need to take your suit to the dry cleaners if it’s looking a bit crumpled. Iron the garment at a low temperature with no steam to gently ease creases out yourself. Make sure you avoid ironing your suit too often as the heat can burn the fibers and the pressure can upset the structure of the weave. Don't press the lapels flat.

  • Hang your jackets on a large wooden hanger with curved ends to fill the shoulders. The wood naturally absorbs moisture from your suit and the shoulder support helps keep its shape. Hanging your suit in a clothes bag will help prevent moths from getting to it. Before you put it in the bag, it’s worth hanging it outside for a couple of hours after you’ve worn it to get rid of any surface scents.

  • Allow at least 24 hours between wears, for your suit to air out and regain its natural structure.

THE SUITS

Most of our suits are made of pure suiting wool. The reason behind this is the amazing properties of this fiber and the low maintenance that it requires. Looking after your suit means it’ll last longer and it also means fewer trips to the dry cleaner. This is how you properly take care of a wool suit:

FEED THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY

A circular economy is driven by long-lasting pieces. Our pieces are designed to last forever and we truly hope you never get tired of them. We want our pieces to pass on to generations and have lots of different lives. If you ever have a piece that you don't want anymore, we suggest you re-sell it to someone else for a new use, it's a win-win game without putting any other new piece in circulation. If you ever want to give your Nancaua garment away, we offer a free collection service to take care of it, please send an email to studio@nancaua.com and we will arrange everything for you. If you donate your garment to us, we will ensure it is either upcycled into new clothing, separated and recycled/regenerated properly, or donated to someone who will give it a second life. The reason behind this initiative is that large charity organizations are saturated with solving overconsumption and 80% of the donated clothes end up in a landfill, mostly in the global south, so we want to make sure that Nancaua pieces never become waste.

ORGANIC COTTON

Wash your organic cotton garments only when it is necessary. If you have a small stain, it is best to treat it immediately by rinsing it with cold water. If water alone doesn’t remove the stain, apply a small amount of gentle laundry detergent to a damp cloth and gently dab the stain. If a stain is severe or you are afraid of ruining the item, take your blouse to the dry cleaner.

Having your garments cleaned by a professional is always preferred, if available. If you prefer to wash your organic cotton garments at home, use a gentle wash cycle setting at a low temperature (max. 30°C), or cold. Use a delicate laundry detergent, and do not use softeners or bleach. Always wash them with similar colours and inside out.

Do not tumble-dry, to avoid shrinkage and keep the garment quality. Instead, hang dry your garments immediately after removing them from the washing machine.

Iron at low to medium heat. Please note that the GOTS organic cotton fabric that we use for our blouses and shirts is naturally creased, it is part of its beauty and design It can be ironed to recover its original shape, but some of the little creases will stay. Do not insist on getting completely rid of them, as the fabric could be damaged.

SILK

Dropping your silk garments off at the dry cleaner is always the preferred method of removing stains and sweat patches. But when the experts are not available, they can still be washed by hand and maintain their classic beauty. Do not attempt to clean silk scarves in a washer, even on the gentle cycle.

To increase the longevity of your silk garments, we recommend handwashing them in cold water with a quarter teaspoon of mild silk-friendly detergent and fabric softener for no more than five minutes.
